Spring Fishing in Destin, Florida: What to Expect in April & May

Spring is one of the best times to fish the Gulf, and Destin is the perfect launch point. As the weather warms, the water gets more active for both inshore and offshore fishing.

Perfect Spring Conditions

In April and May expect daytime highs in the 80s and cooler nights in the 60s. Water temperatures rise steadily, moving fish closer to shore and into shallower areas. Less rain and clearer skies usually mean excellent visibility, though the occasional windy day can affect offshore plans.

Spring Target Species

Bottom fishing brings vermilion snapper, triggerfish, white snapper and almaco jacks. As the season goes on you may also see king mackerel, mahi-mahi and early-season tuna.
